Nearby historic Village of Merrickville has lively craft gift shops, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, live entertainment, Rideau River locks. Ottawa (50 min); Smiths Falls (23 min); Perth (47 min). ABOUT THE HOME: *Note: The "seasonal" 3rd bedroom is in a bunkie, attached to the garage, which is just 12 steps from the main house entrance. It is only available from May through September because it cannot be adequately heated during colder months. For "out of season" accommodation for 6 people, there are 2 futons available in the living room - please enquire about futon use when submitting a booking request. Now, you may call it a "cottage", but I call it a "castle", simply because "a man's home is his castle"! My "castle" is my home and principle residence. It is named "Kanien'kehá:ka Roundhouse", which reflects my Mohawk ("People of the Flint") heritage. This round house is a unique, energy-efficient, round-shaped home of “stack-wall/cordwood masonry” construction. Despite my home’s relatively small, yet cozy, open-concept living space, it does feature many “creature comforts", such as pinewood floors, wood-burning fireplace, central heating & air-conditioning, ceiling fans, fully-equipped modern kitchen with island, unlimited WiFi internet, 58" satellite TV, DVD player & a super stereo/surround sound system! The décor can be described as "Boho Hippie-Chic" and even "muzium-like", which reflects my varied life experiences & passions. For Outdoor Living, there is an above-ground, (unheated), swimming pool with cedar lanai & (yoga) sun deck, (available May through September); propane BBQ and a screened-in pinewood gazebo, (with a futon), for "bug-free" dining & fresh-air sleeping, if desired. In the spring of 2017, this house & property was used as a "set" in an award-winning independent Sci-Fi feature film, entitled "Blue Skies on Mars", which was released in the summer of 2018. GUEST ACCESS: Guests have EXCLUSIVE access to the entire Roundhouse, property & pool - it is not shared with the owner or other guests during your stay. IMPORTANT NOTE: When booking, please be sure to accurately state the number of adults, kids or infants in your group. Exact numbers will affect pricing quote. Once your booking is accepted, you will be REQUIRED to submit full names of everyone in your group, in your messaging. No "surprise/unregistered" guests, please! INTERACTION WITH GUESTS: Although entry during your stay is with an electronic key-pad code, you will be greeted & checked-in by your host in person. All current virus-prevention protocols, (including the wearing of masks), will be followed during this 15-minute orientation tour of the property's features & amenities. OTHER THINGS TO NOTE: Although, a selection of hygiene travel samples are provided, guests may want to bring their own shampoo, conditioner & shower soap, (no "anti-bacterial" soaps, please, as such products are not septic tank-friendly!) Bath, Shower & Pool towels are provided. INTERNET SPEED: Although WiFi is available and adequate for average household use, the internet speed in this rural area can fluctuate and service can sometimes be unreliable. If you need to conduct important online work, business or Zoom calls during your stay, internet service may prove frustrating at times. WILDLIFE ALERT! It is not unusual to be visited by wildlife, (squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, skunks, raccoons, turtles, snakes, pheasants, wild turkeys, many songbirds and even deer!). We respectfully ask that you do not feed the animals because that would interfere with their routine natural feeding habits. MOSQUITO ALERT! Bring insect repellent, especially in the months of May & June. TICK WARNING! As the property is rural, all guests must be aware of the possibility of encountering ticks. Please research prevention methods. CLEANLINESS & TIDINESS: A Special Thank You for your cleanliness & tidiness. I have been extremely lucky to have hosted over 325 guests between 2016 & 2020. Many of these guests have left my home so clean & tidy that its as if they had never been there! Some have even left gifts in appreciation of how much effort & pride I take in presenting such a clean, tidy & orderly home for their visit. To those special guests, a sincere, heartfelt "Nia'wen", (thank you), for caring for my home so well. You will always be welcome to return... to clean my home again! THE NEIGHBOURHOOD: The area is rural, but with several homes on large lots along a well-maintained gravel access road. A neighboring private stable frequently exercises their horses along the road. Occasionally, the signal horn of a passing train can be heard cutting through the predominant tranquility of the area. A car is essential if you want to visit nearby town and attractions. There is no public transportation. Parliament Hill, in the nation's capital city of Ottawa, is just a quick 50 minute drive.
